I’m releasing today the director’s cut of my short movie “The Devil in the Detail”. View it here, or on MySpace video:

Studio Berezin Film | MySpace Video
The story is originally written by Alexey Berezin (my brother) in 2006, which in early 2009 I converted into a screenplay (big thanks to Michael Dougan for help and guidance!), and then produced, directed and edited over the next few months with the crew from Scary Cow Productions, and finally screened at Victoria Theatre in San Francisco at the Scary Cow Independent Film festival.
Much credit goes to the actors - Jerome Shafer (David), Andrin Foster (Gaylord the Devil) and Karuna Tanahashi (Lili), as well as the excellent crew members: Talha Ahmed (location, 1st camera), Mark Lisaj (2nd camera), Dee Leitner (makeup), Terry VerHaar (lighting), Dan Patterson (grip), Dave Cowl (sound), Gina Richman (2nd editor), and Russell Blalack (sound conditioning). Many thanks go to Silicon Valley Studios for providing their studio space, and the Scary Cow Productions for helping such projects happen.
Please leave your comments about the movie - I’d love to hear your feedback!
Also, for higher quality copies (DVD and possibly Blu-Ray), feel free to send me a request.
Enjoy!

A previously unknown producer from Uruguay Fede Alvarez makes a 5 minute short called “Panic Attack” with awesome special effects on a shoestring budget, and gets a $30 million deal with Hollywood - read the story on Yahoo buzzlog. That is really amazing! And what’s most amazing to me is how much work he must have put into it. Of course, some SFX are a bit patchy, but for a small and (I’m guessing) volunteer crew that is a sign of a real passion.
Now, here’s the video:

Now that I’ve completed my Producer Training at KMVT, I’m looking for a good topic to produce my own show. It has to be not-for-profit (-ish), light-hearted and dynamic. I love to shoot in the field and edit my stuff, so the studio talk show would be generously peppered with cut-aways, possibly special effects and cool music.
Well, I’m still thinking… If anyone got any ideas, I’d love to hear those (leave me a comment!). Thanks!

A class project from the Field Production Workshop at KMVT Community Television in Mountain View, CA. The whole thing was produced by a handful of students with little or no video background in 4 weekly sessions. It’s the real deal
This clip is a 5 minute cut. The complete show (15 min) will be aired on Wednesdays starting June 10, 2009 at 9pm together with other shot takes - channel 15 in Mountain View, CA.
Enjoy!

I’ve taken a walk on the evening of the Valentine’s Day in my neighborhood - never thought it would look that pretty on the screen. Wish you could see the full quality HD…

I once went for a walk in the San Francisco Bay Area mountains, and ran into these little creatures. Good thing I had my little mighty Canon digital elf with me. Filmmakers still look down at these pocket-size point-and-shoot “soap boxes”, but, unlike our old prejudices, the technology isn’t standing still. Look for yourself:

While taking a class at BAVC in Mission District of San Francisco, one student got curious about the neighborhood - what exactly was it? He went around and asked a few people, got very confusing and contradicting responses, and that’s how we found our theme for the class project movie. We went around the block, talked to a few people - this time on camera, and although we still have no idea what the name of this neighborhood really is, we’ve learned quite a bit about the area, possibly more than we ever expected to. Once the filming was done, each of us locked up in a room and edited their own version of the story…
And now, here’s mine - enjoy!
